**IMPORTANT NOTICE - SCHUBERT SOCIETY OF THE USA**
December 1, 2009

Dear Friends and Readers Everywhere,

The SSUSA as a membership organization will go on hiatus at the end of 2009. In place of the SSUSA, we will work within a new concept in reaching out to Schubertians. We are moving forward from a membership organization to an online informational and educational interactive site dedicated to Franz Schubert –with, we hope, a very positive transnational appeal. No membership is needed, no dues to pay. Donations will be gratefully accepted in order to keep the SSUSA Newsletter archived online for all readers. We are planning to start a new web site and a blog to be the vehicles for readers’ formal and informal commentary, and queries on our new home page (both formats – web pages and blog – will be moderated and edited). Publications and communications will be online only.  This is the 21st century, and we want Franz Schubert to be on the Internet for the greatest exposure and the widest participation.

We are exploring a variety of informational formats that will appear as content dictates. This will be a more freewheeling and open venture. We will not be in competition with scholarly publications or sister organizations. In fact, if you belong to another Schubert membership organization, we urge you to continue your support. We know how tough it is to retain membership, and national and local Schubert groups everywhere need you. We will be a voice for anyone -- individual and organizational -- who wishes to be part of a larger online discussion about things Schubert.

Our new test site is under construction at http://schubertusa.weebly.com/. We will identify ourselves as SCHUBERT/USA under the sponsorship of the Schubert Society of the USA. You will have an important part in this new interactive venture – as commentator, editor, moderator, contributor and researcher. I will continue to manage the overall operation, and will set and maintain standards for intelligent and reasonable discourse.
