Schubert Society's Welcome Message

Dear Schubertian,

May I welcome you to the Web pages of the Schubert Society of the USA, Inc. (SSUSA). As we continue to thrive, we are pleased to reach out to Schubertians everywhere.

We are an open and collaborative effort by like-minded people from all walks: musicologists, teachers, students, scholars and academics from a variety of disciplines; independent scholars with or without an institutional or academic affiliation; professional and amateur musicians and performers; serious listeners and concert goers -- a broad and inclusive combination.

We print a newsletter for our members and institutional subscribers and also maintain this web site for anyone wishing to be in touch with news from and about the SSUSA. The SSUSA Newsletter is published three times a year and welcomes Schubert-related articles and essays; reports of Schubert events; book, CD, and performance announcements; and reviews and news items of general interest to the membership and readers. We welcome suggestions about links to sites with Schubert-related content. As a courtesy to Web readers we plan to archive back issues of the SSUSA Newsletter.

About Arpeggione: We announced the launch of our new scholarly journal some time ago and, despite our best efforts, we were unable to obtain sufficient funding to proceed past the initial phase. We also found how difficult scholarly publishing is in light of the already existing 24,000 scholarly journals. We are keeping the page on our site in order to retain the name for the SSUSA.

We receive numerous queries from Web readers and make every effort to answer each query with careful research.

Sincerely,
Janet I. Wasserman
Founder and Executive Director
